[ARCHIVE] Round One Daredevil Bingo FAQ

What is Daredevil Bingo?

Daredevil Bingo is a challenge in the spirit of other fandom bingo challenges (kink_bingo, cottoncandy_bingo, xmfc_bingo, etc.) Participants sign up for a randomized bingo card and then create fanworks to complete a “bingo” down, across, or diagonally on the card. If a participant completes a bingo during a round, they can request a new card.

While Daredevil Bingo is largely focused on the current Netflix TV series, fanworks related to the comics are welcome!

What kind of account do I need in order to participate?

You’ll need an account wherever you wish to post your fanworks (tumblr, Ao3, dreamwidth, DeviantArt... whatever works best for you). If you want to see your works reblogged by the Daredevil Bingo tumblr, you’ll need a tumblr account.

Mod posts will be hosted on the daredevilbingo comm at dreamwidth and linked at tumblr. A dreamwidth account is NOT required to participate.

How long will I have to sign up? How long will Daredevil Bingo run?

Signups for Round One will begin on July 25th, 2016, and Round One will last AT LEAST through July 24th, 2017. (This date subject to change, but the challenge will run for at least one full year.) You can sign up and get a card at any time during the round.

How do I sign up?

You will sign up by commenting on the Sign Up Post at the dreamwidth comm. Signups should include:

a) your username at the site(s) where you will host your works, and the name of the site(s) (ex: significantowl on tumblr, significantowl on Ao3)

b) (if needed) up to 10 individual prompts and/or 2 prompt categories you do NOT want to see on your card

How will I receive my card?

In a reply to your signup comment. Cards will be given as a copy-pastable an html table.

Where do I post my fanworks?

Wherever you like, but they must be publicly available. Please add your work to the Daredevil Bingo collection on Ao3, if you post at Ao3. If you post/link your work at tumblr, and you’d like to see it reblogged to the Daredevil Bingo tumblr, use the tag “daredevil bingo” within the first five tags. (You may also want to @daredevilbingo as well.)

Do I have to use warnings for my fanworks?

Yes. Required warnings for this challenge are: Major Character Death, Rape/Noncon, Underage, and Graphic Depictions of Violence. You may also Choose Not to Warn. These warnings should be included on any posts you want to see reblogged on the challenge community.

Additional tags/warnings/content notes are up to you!

Is [art/podfic/meta/other] allowed?

Yes! All types of fanworks are allowed. Fic, art, meta, podfic, mixes, graphics, crafts... if you have an idea, go for it!

(A note: if you’re considering a translation or podfic of another author’s work, don’t forget to check with the original author for permission, or see if they have a transformative works policy posted.)

Is there a minimum word count/size for fanworks?

No. All lengths of works are welcome!

May I complete a bingo with just one fanwork?

In most cases, a Bingo = 5 different fanworks, one for each of 5 prompts listed down, across, or diagonally on your card. However, a longer work that is divided into 5 sections (e.g., chapters of a fic, or panels of a comic) with each section centered around a separate prompt can be used.

Do fanworks have to be complete?

Yes, all fanworks have to be complete.

Can my fanwork be part of an ongoing series?

Yes, individually-posted works in an ongoing series are fine!

I can’t create for/don’t like/am triggered by a certain [trope, theme, etc] and don’t want it on my card.

Getting a prompt on your card doesn’t mean you actually have to create something for it; to get a bingo, you only need 5 of the 25 prompts on your card.

However, you will have the opportunity to strike 10 individual prompts and/or 2 entire categories of prompts before your card is created. (If you need to strike more than that, you can email daredevilbingomod AT gmail DOT com to request it. I won’t ask for reasons, but please only do this if you really feel you have to.)

How strict do I have to be when interpreting prompts? If a prompt is listed in a certain category, do I have to interpret it through the lens of that category?

Go wild! “Fight scene” could mean a brawl, but it could just as easily mean characters having an intense verbal argument. “Do some digging” is listed under “journalism,” but maybe your characters are digging an actual hole in the ground! “Feathers” may be listed under “kink,” but someone could just as easily adopt a pet chicken or have an allergic reaction to a down pillow. It’s all up to you!

How does the WILD CARD square work?

To use the wild card square, choose any prompt from the Round One Prompt List. It's fine if the prompt you choose is one that's already located elsewhere on your card. However, you can't count the same prompt twice for bingo (using it for both "Wild Card" and another square in the same line).

How do I let you know I’ve earned a bingo? How do I request a second card?

When you’ve earned a bingo by creating fanworks for 5 prompts listed down, across, or diagonally on your card, comment on the Achievement Post (TBA).

Your comment should include:

Achievement: (Bingo or Blackout)
# of works:
Type(s) of works: (fic, art, meta, etc)
Prompts used:
Links to works:
Requesting an additional card: (yes or no)

Can I use a co-created work for one of my squares?

Sure! It doesn’t matter whether or not your co-creator is a participant.

What about a work created for another community or challenge?

If it’s okay with the other challenge mods, and marked as a Daredevil Bingo work in some way when posting, then certainly! Rules regarding completed works and required warnings still apply.
